Oh Carol!

🎶 Don’t let the heat overcome you when they play so loud 🎶

When I was in my 20s, my favorite song to dance to by my boyfriend’s indie band was the Chuck Berry* cover, “Oh Carol.” It was always a rockin’ crowd in those hometown bars, and that jam got everyone on the dance floor.

Yesterday, Carol Wick got her day in court. Sort of. She was able to give her testimony to the Public Integrity & Ethics (PIE) Committee investigating the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence. For five long years, she has been fighting fearlessly behind the scenes to understand what the “hell was going on” at the top of the state’s leading domestic violence agency.

These past few weeks we have been finding out, and the scandal is more outrageous than anyone could have imagined.

There were many times she got stonewalled. There were many dead-ends. There were times people were silenced.

Nevertheless, she persisted.

When Carol was summarily fired four years ago, she lost a lot of friends in Orlando. People who used to, well, suck up to her, now avoided her in public places.

It takes a lot of courage to do what Carol did. She took personal and professional risks. I know for a fact she did not know until recently that Tiffany Carr could have been behind her personal expulsion at Harbor House…
