The Day the Silence Died in Maine
I’ve been tracking along with the Finding Our Voices various campaigns in the state of Maine. This most recent art exhibit and poster program that has literally taken over the community in the small seaport town of Belfast, ME is the most impactful yet.
Patricia McLean has doggedly continued to pursue her goal to raise the voices of all women who’ve endured and triumphed over domestic abuse in all its forms. According to her website:
“Huge (2’ x 4’) banners, each featuring one of 32 Maine Survivors aged 18 to 81, displayed for at least a month in downtown business windows.
The campaign started in April 2020 in Midcoast Maine as a response to COVID-19. More than 35 towns all across Maine have hosted 1,000 of our banners since then, including Eastport, Machias, Bar Harbor, Boothbay Harbor, the Blue Hill Peninsula, Dover Foxcroft, Scarborough, Biddeford and York.”
This is how it’s done. One town at a time. One story at a time.
One voice raised delivers multitudes. Well done.
